Three elephants, including a calf, entered a residential quarters in Chincona area in Valparai on Saturday morning, and destroyed a portion of a house and a tea shop.

Fence

Sources said that the elephants entered the Tamil Nadu Tea Plantation Corporation staff quarters, destroyed the fence surrounding the house of Deputy Field Officer Eswaran, then hit the wall with tusk and damaged a portion of the house.

Glass

The elephants after breaking a car glass moved towards Haneefa's tea shop, which was close by.

They completely destroyed the shop, the sources said and added that the residents gathered to chase away the elephants.

The residents found support in Forest Department staff, who soon rushed to the spot. The sources said the Department staff studied the extent of damage.
