A herd of six elephants that passed through reserve forests near Sathanur damaged crops in adjacent lands on Tuesday night. They damaged a hut in Sorpanandal village and sugarcane and paddy crops near Veeranam village, eye witnesses said.

“They were found behind Ponmudirayar Temple in Pennaiyaru Reserve Forest on Wednesday and Forest personnel were trying to prevent the pachyderms from entering the villages,” a Forest official posted at the site said.
