Elephant safaris in the Mudumalai Tiger Reserve (MTR), near here, which had remained suspended since early June on account of the continuous rains and consequent slippery conditions in the reserve resumed on Sunday.
Speaking to The Hindu, the Deputy Director MTR, A. Ameer Haja, said that since there had been no rains for the last 10 days it had been decided to start the safaris.
Two elephants were pressed into service on Sunday to cater to the tourists.
From Monday, three elephants will be used, the Deputy Director of Mudumalai Tiger Reserve said.
Stating that the elephant trips would be organised at 7 a.m. and 4 p.m. every day, he said that each elephant will accommodate four persons and each safari will last between 30 to 45 minutes.
Reservations can be made at the office of the Mudumalai Tiger Reserve in Ooty and at Theppakadu in the reserve.
On account of Dussera holidays, the inflow of tourists to the Mudumalai Tiger Reserve is good.
