Sundaravalli, the elephant of the Kallazhagar Temple at Alagarkoil near here , left for the 48-day rejuvenation camp on Wednesday

The State government is organising the camp at Thekkampatti near Mettupalayam from December 19 to February 4. The seven-year-old pachyderm will join 99 other elephants, including 33 from temples, from across the State at the camp. The camp is organised by the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments (HR and CE) Department and the Forest Department.

Parvathi, the 17-year-old elephant of Meenakshi Sundareswarar Temple, will not be taken to the camp this year. “The elephant has a small bruise on her forehead. Even though there are no major health complications, we decided it is better that she misses the camp this year,” said P. Jayaraman, Joint Commissioner of HR and CE Department and the Executive Officer.
