78,999 names added to voter list in Tirunelveli while 69,482 in Tuticorin

The district has 18,99,656 voters including 9,47,431 men, 9,52,212 women and 13 transgender voters as per the electoral roll released by District Collector M. Jayaraman on Wednesday.

After receiving applications from eligible voters between July 1 and 26 to include their names in the electoral rolls and two special camps held in the polling stations on July 10 and 11, spot inspections were made by the officials to verify the facts furnished in the applications. Based on the findings of the inspectors, necessary deletions / additions were made in the voter list.

Subsequently, 39,682 men voters, 39,304 women voters and 13 transgenders got their names included in the electoral rolls, taking the total number of voters in the district from 18,20,657 (as per the draft electoral roll released on last July 1) to 18,99,656 and registering an increase of 4.33 per cent.

District Revenue Officer P. Ramanasaraswathi, Election Tahsildar S. Ramachandran and District Public Relations Officer U. Ravindran were present.

Tuticorin

Collector G. Prakash released the supplementary electoral rolls in Tiruchendur on Wednesday in the presence of Revenue Divisional Officer and Electoral Registration Officer B. Packiam Devakirubai.

While Sajjansingh Chavan, Assistant Collector of Tuticorin released the poll rolls of Tuticorin and Srivaikuntam Assembly constituencies in Tuticorin, J. Ravichandran, Revenue Divisional Officer and Electoral Registration Officer, Kovilpatti released the rolls for Kovilpatti, Vilathikulam and Ottapidaram constituencies.

According to the electoral rolls released, Tuticorin district has a total of 10, 47, 550 voters including 5, 17,543 men and 5, 30, 007 women. The draft electoral rolls would be displayed at Revenue Divisional Office, Taluk office and other designated locations where the voters could verify their details. During the hundred-per-cent verification of draft rolls as on July 1, 2010, a final roll of 9, 78, 190 voters including 4, 82, 374 men and 4, 95, 816 women had been registered from six constituencies of Tuticorin district. After that, the number of voters rose with the addition of 69, 482 voters including 35, 239 men and 34, 243 women.

Constituency wise voters are given as follows: Vilathikulam: Total voters – 1, 68,432, Men – 83, 822 and Women – 84610; Tuticorin: Total voters – 2, 01, 575, Men – 1, 00, 849 and Women – 1, 00, 726; Tiruchendur: Total voters – 1, 81, 349, Men – 87, 937 and Women – 93, 412; Srivaikuntam: Total voters – 1, 68, 316, Men – 81, 452 and Women – 86, 864; Ottapidaram: Total voters – 1, 56, 394, Men – 78, 439 and Women – 77, 955; Kovilpatti: Total voters – 1, 71, 484, Men – 85, 044 and Women – 86, 440.

Virudhunagar

A total of 75,105 persons were added in the voter list of seven Assembly constituencies of Virudhunagar district when the supplementary voter list was released on Wednesday. Releasing the supplementary voter list, the Collector, V.K. Shanmugam, said that a total of 90,069 forms seeking inclusion of names in the voter list was received. Among them 14,964 forms were rejected. The names of people whose age was 18 years as on January 1, 2010 were eligible for inclusion.

With the inclusion of new voters, the total number of voters in the district has gone up to 12,15,443. Among them are 6,01,526 men and 6,13,881 women.

The number of voters in each constituency is: Rajapalayam – 1,75,893; Srivilliputtur – 1,84,514; Sattur – 1,76,904; Sivakasi 1,72,027; Virudhunagar – 1,61,567; Aruppukottai – 1,71,315 and Tiruchuzhi – 1,73,223. The supplementary voter list has been published at the Revenue Divisional Offices in Sivakasi and Aruppukottai, six municipal offices, eight taluk offices and 1,183 polling stations and post offices for the benefit of the people. District Revenue Officer B. Ganesan, and the Personal Assistant to Collector (General), A. Ganesan, were present.

Dindigul

A total of 76,183 voters were included in the final supplementary electoral roll for 2010. Total electors in the district as on date are 13,69,231 of which men are 6,83,893 and women 6,85,338, said Collector M. Vallalar. He was publishing the final supplementary roll at his office near here after a special summary revision with reference to January 1, 2010 as the qualifying date.
