: Elaborate arrangements have been made for procession before immersion of Vinayagar idols that would take place on Thursday and Friday in various places as a part of Vinayagar Chathurthi celebrations on Wednesday.

After a special meeting convened in this connection at the Collectorate on Tuesday, Collector K.S. Palanisamy said that eight points were identified for immersion of idols. The clay or papier-mâché idols only will be allowed for immersion. The immersion points were near Sri Balasubramanian Temple in Periakulam, Gnanmmal Padithurai at Mullaperiyar river in Uthamapalayam, Thattanthurai at Mullai Periyar river in Cumbum, Aranmanaipudhur Pass at Mullaperiyar river in Theni and Vaigai dam near the Vaigai river in Andipatti, Kottakudi river near Vettavarayan Temple in Bodinayakkanur and Margayankottai river bridge point for Chinnamanur and Margayankottai.

All idols installed at various places should be immersed in these eight immersion points only. Idol procession should be taken through prescribed route only. No deviation under any circumstances would be permitted, he added.

A total of 487 idols including 118 in Chinnamanur, 50 in Theni and the rest in others places were installed by the Hindu Munnani. Idols were installed at Andipatti, Periakulam, Cumbum, Thevaram, Bodi, Uthamapalayam and Cumbum also.

Already, district administration had banned chemical blended Vinayagar idols for immersion in water bodies as such idols would pollute water bodies mostly used for irrigation purpose.


Idol procession will take place on Thursday, Friday and on Sunday. The Paraipatti Vinayagar idol procession will start in the morning from Paraipatti and reach Kottai Kulam near Rock Fort.

Vinaygar Chuthurthi festival was celebrated in a grand manner in all Vinayagar temples which wore festive look. Special pujas and aradahanas took place in the morning. Hundreds of people thronged Sri Vellai Vinayagar Temple at Clock Tower, Sri Vazhikatti Vinayagar temple near Tiruchi Railway gate, Sri Selva Vinayagar Temple on Chatram Street and Sri Vetri Vinayagar temple at Railway station in Dindigul and Pethatchi Vinyagar temple near Railway gate in Theni.
