CHENNAI: The eighth art festival of ‘Naadhabrahmam’ was inaugurated at a function here on Wednesday.

Speaking after conferring the titles on the artistes T.R. Pachamuthu, Chancellor, SRM University, said efforts should be taken to create more awareness among rasikas to patronise both the arts and the artistes.

In his observation people in foreign countries spend their evening hours attending concerts which happened occasionally.

In the musical capital of India steps should be taken to take the arts to the common man also, he added.

Titles conferred

‘Naada Kovida’ title was conferred on vocalist T.V. Sankaranarayanan; ‘Nrithya Kovida’ on Padma Subrahmanyam; ‘Naada Sevika’ on S. Sowmya, vocalist and ‘Nrithya Sevika’ on dancer Pavithra Srinivasan.

While Mr.Sankaranarayanan and Dr.Padma Subrahmanyam received a citation, shawl and a cash purse of Rs.10,000 each, the other two artistes received a citation, shawl and a cash award of Rs.5,000 each.

Felicitating the awardees noted dancer V.P. Dhananjayan said one could see camaraderie among artists in Chennai only.

Praising the efforts of N.Subramanian, editor of ‘Naadhabrahmam’ musical magazine, he said articles in it were very useful to both vocalists and dancers.
