The accused get seven years imprisonment

SALEM: Salem Mahalir Court sentenced eight persons, including a town panchayat president, to seven years imprisonment for allegedly attacking and molesting a 35-year-old woman following a land dispute at Narasingapuram, near Attur, during 2004.

The prosecution said that eight persons including the Narasingapuram Town Panchayat President and also AIADMK East District Secretary Andavar, reportedly attacked one Chitra, daughter of Subramanian following a land dispute.

She was attacked with a sickle.

Since all the eight were let out on bail, Chitra approached Madras High Court which ordered the case to be transferred to CB-CID.

CB-CID filed charge sheet against the eight including Andavar and the case was taken on file by the Salem Mahalir Court.

On Friday Judge Rangaraju sentenced them to seven years in prison.
