The police arrested eight persons and seized deadly weapons along with a luxury car during a routine vehicle check near Marunthukottai channel near Thuckalay on Tuesday night.

According to police, a team noticed a few persons standing outside the car.

When the police inspected the car, they found ‘aruvals’, iron rods and a rope.

The police brought them to the station and during interrogation they reportedly told them that they had a plan to waylay cars passing through Marunthukottai.

The police arrested Sundaram (40) of Madurai, Abdul Rahman (65) of Thuckalay Kottankatchi Vilai, Dharmaraj (33) of Madurai, Indira Narayanan (50) of Vallavankottai of Tirunelveli, Abbas (43) of Madurai Thirupuvanam Muslim street, Jeya Kumar (43) of Amaravilai near Thiruvananthapuram, Nowshth (32) and Pulpikar (32) of Oumayanallur Kottipalam near Thiruvananthapurm.

They were produced before a magistrate at Padmanabhapuram court who remanded them to judicial custody. The police have registered a case.
