For completing a land deal with fake documents

The District Crime Branch police have arrested 8 persons of Periya Venmani hamlet in Madurantakam taluk on charges of completing a land deal using fake documents and impersonation.

According to a DCB release, the complainant, S. Sriram of Lakshmipuram Extension, West Tambaram bought a land measuring 3.01 cents at Periya Venmani village for Rs.40 lakhs with the help of local real estate agents.

The agents – Modhi Basha, Loganathan, Kanagasabai, Baskar, Sekar, Arumugham, Ravishankar, Vijayakumar, Bhakiyam and Sargunam – sold the land to Mr. riram by stating that they have obtained power of attorney from the legal hirers of deceased landowners – Ayyathurai Nadar and his wife, Thavamani.

When the complainant verified the documents subsequently, he found that the land sold to him by the agents did not belong to Ayyathurai Nadar and family.

The lands were classified as the `property whose owner was not known' in the land records. Thus, Mr.Sriram lodged a complaint with the police. Subsequently, the District Crime Branch police investigated the complaint and arrested – Modhi Basha, Loganathan, Kanagasabai, Baskar, Sekar, Arumugham, Ravishankar and Bhakiyam – and remanded them to judicial custody.

The police were on the lookout for Vijayakumar and Sargunam.
