Udhagamandalam: Efforts are being made to provide higher education related facilities in the district, said the Nilgiris Collector, Anandrao V. Patil, here on Tuesday.
Participating in a function organised to celebrate the 106th birth anniversary of Kamaraj, he said that the Khadi Board Minister K. Ramachandran, members of the Legislative Assembly and the administration were making a joint effort to establish a medical college here. A suitable site was in the process of being selected.
A suitable place has been suggested for putting up an engineering college by the Anna University.
Efforts were also being made to establish a medical facility with private sector help at Vazhaithottam.
Stating that primary health centres would be provided wherever necessary, Mr. Patil said that the Government has been requested to fill up all the doctors’ vacancies.
Within two years the number of doctors in all the hospitals and primary health centres in the district would be adequate and all of them would be well equipped.
The Collector distributed prizes to students who had excelled in various competitions organised to commemorate the occasion. The Udhagamandalam MLA, B. Gopalan, presided. The Coonoor MLA, A. Soundarapandian, also spoke.
The Chief Educational Officer, S.R. Sivagnanam, welcomed the gathering. The District Education Officer, Sugantha, proposed a vote of thanks.
