The district administration has taken steps to drain flood water from inundated residential areas in Kundayiruppu near Sivakasi.
Virudhunagar Collector, M. Balaji, along with Sattur MLA, R.B. Udhayakumar, inspected the relief works taken up in Adi-Dravida Colony, Ramuthevanpatti, Arunthathiyar Colony and Kangarseval Ayyanar colony.
The Collector said that earth movers were used to clear the obstacles in supply channels to drain the flood water.
A small bridge in Ramuthevanpatti that was blocking free flow of water would be replaced with a bigger one, he said in a statement.
The Collector also said that a check dam would be constructed on the supply channel to prevent flooding of Kangarseval Ayyanar colony.
Revenue officials have been asked to make door-to-door verification of damages caused to the houses.
The health department has taken up precautionary measures to prevent outbreak of diseases. A medical team is in the area and is providing treatment to people having fever.
Adequate chlorination was being done to the water supplied for drinking purpose. Fogging activity has been taken up to do away with mosquito menace.
