City celebrates Republic Day with gaiety and fervour

: Republic Day was celebrated with gaiety and fervour here on Thursday. Tamil Nadu Chamber of Commerce and Industry president N. Jagadeesan hoisted the national flag and addressed the gathering. At the Tamil Nadu Foodgrains Merchants Association Limited, its president S.P. Jeyapragasam, unfurled the tricolour flag and delivered the presidential address.

Madurai Kamaraj University Registrar (in charge) Professor M. Rajiakodi hoisted the national flag and delivered the Republic Day address on the university campus. Faculty members, students, syndicate and senate members participated.

The Saraswathi Narayanan College principal, Dr. M. Kannan, hoisted the national flag. Prizes to the best NCC cadets and NSS volunteers were given on the occasion.

The students and faculty members participated in the R-Day celebrations held in Nadar Mahajana Sangam S. Vellaichamy Nadar College. O.M.S.R. Sivajyothi, the executive committee member of the college, hoisted the flag.

The C.S.I. Jeyaraj Annapackiam College of Nursing and Allied Sciences celebrated the 63{+r}{+d}Republic Day in a grand manner. Rev. Joseph, secretary of Madurai Ramnad Diocese, was the chief guest. The students and faculty members participated in the celebrations held at Sri Sathguru Sangeetha Vidyalayam (Music College). Principal Dr. Latha Varma hoisted the national flag and addressed the gathering.

At the Vadamalayan Institute of Medical and Allied Health Sciences, Dr. V. Pappunathan, ENT surgeon, hoisted the national flag and addressed the students.

Principal A. Jasmin and faculty members participated.

The students of Topkids celebrated the Republic Day at the Government Meenakshi College grounds. Nearly 1,000 students from various schools and colleges participated in the slogan contest and prizes were given.

Additional Commissioner of Labour V. Raja, industrialist B.T. Bangera, Dr. S. Vijayarani, principal of Meenakshi College, D. Bojaraj, Dr. Dheep and R. Vijayabaskaran from Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board addressed.

SPJ matriculation school students celebrated the Republic Day in a grand manner in which Additional Labour Commissioner V. Raja was the chief guest. At the Sourashtra Higher Secondary School, corporation councillor S. Rajalingam hoisted the national flag and addressed the students. Inspector General and Commissioner of Police (Madurai City) P. Kannappan was the chief guest at the Sydai. Sa. Duraisamy Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Melur. He gave away prizes to the winners on the occasion. The students of Balamandiram celebrated Republic Day. School secretary S. Krishnan hoisted the national flag. School headmaster S. Duraipandi welcomed the gathering.

Parent Teachers Association president C. Bose participated.

The executives, staffs and customers of the Indian Overseas Bank celebrated the Republic day with Chief Regional Manager K.M. Thirunavukkarasu hoisting the Tricolour.

The IOB Association's deputy general secretary S. Veeraraghavan participated. At the J.K. Hospital, Professor T. Jeyarajasekar hoisted the tricolour in which Dr. N. Jenarthanan, Dr. Kalpana Jenarthanan and others addressed. The TN Janata Dal state general secretary, John Moses, unfurled the national flag and took the salute at the party office in the presence of cadres.

The BJP Madurai Urban district unit celebrated the Republic Day with its district president M. Rajarathinam hoisting the national flag. Large number of party cadres and functionaries participated.

ITBP

At the Recruit Training Centre of Indo Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) Force, Republic Day was celebrated with fanfare at the recently established campus at Illupaikudi, near here.

The day-long celebration was set off with the hoisting of the National Flag by R.K. Patariya, Deputy Inspector General, in the presence of Officers' and other ranks of the unit.

In his address, he emphasized the need for all ranks to rise to the expectations of the country in facing the future challenges to serve the nation with utmost zeal and dignity.

Many competitions were conducted and prizes distributed to the winners.
