TIRUPUR: Vice-Chancellor of Bharathiar University G. Thiruvasagam has said that any satisfactory system of education should aim at a balanced growth of the individual and insist on both knowledge and wisdom.

Delivering the convocation address at Sree Ramu College of Arts and Science at N.M. Sungam, near here on Wednesday, Mr. Thiruvasagam insisted that the education system should not only train the intellect but bring grace into the heart of man. Wisdom was more easily gained through the study of literature, philosophy and religion.


Mr. Thiruvasagam said that education was not the amount of information that was put into one's brain and run riot there, undigested all his/her life.

"We must have life-building, character-making assimilation of ideas,'' he added.

Preserve ecology

The Vice-Chancellor said that the educational system must bring home to each boy and girl that the survival of mankind depended on our ability to understand and preserve our environment ecology.

Mr. Thiruvasagam wanted that the teaching should kindle the flame of compassion in youth. S. Ramasamy, secretary of Sree Ramu College of Arts and Science presided over the function. Principal B. Ganesan welcomed and Science Dean M. Kumaran thanked the gathering.
