Inadequacies in infrastructure and quality of teaching staff found
Schools collected fee citing smart classrooms without having even whiteboards
There are 32 self-financed, 110 matriculation and seven partially aided and CBSE and ICSE schools
ERODE: Education Department officials have found certain lacunae in the functioning of self-financed, matriculation schools in the district.
Sources said five teams that inspected schools based on the report the latter submitted in response to a Department questionnaire found inadequacies in infrastructure and quality of teaching faculty.
The Department constituted the teams to report to the Government on the status of infrastructure available in the schools and the fee they collect.
This was to assess if the fee the schools collect is commensurate with infrastructure available.
Erode has 32 high and higher secondary self-financed schools, 110 matriculation institutions and seven partially aided and CBSE and ICSE schools.
The sources said it came to the teams’ notice that schools collected fee citing smart classrooms without having even whiteboards, did not elaborate fee components (tuition fee, library fee, etc.), did not have proper toilets, qualified faculty and under qualified teachers.
They said that majority of the schools that had responded to the questionnaire was nursery schools and private, matriculation schools were yet to respond.
In the event of their failing to do so, the Government would consider them to have minimum infrastructure.
The sources further said that based on the report, the Government would take further action.
The questionnaire sought details on school recognition, type of management, medium of instruction, languages taught, total school area, built-up area, playground details, number of laboratories (subject-wise) and equipment available, library (no. of books and periods allotted in timetable), type of drinking water facility available, number of students (class-wise, caste-wise), number of teachers with qualification and years of experience, etc.
