Udhagamandalam: Under the aegis of the Forest Department, Gudalur Division, an eco-awareness programme for adivasis was held at the Gene Pool Garden in Nadugani on Friday.

Addressing the participants, Forester M. Lakshmanan briefed about the different ways in which tribals were associated with forests. The two were inextricably intertwined and it was the duty of the tribals to protect the forests.

Such programmes were being organised to enhance awareness about the flora and fauna, he said. They also helped conserve forest wealth and increase green cover. Executive Committee members of the Nilgiris Wildlife and Environment Association A. Bheeman and M.K. Bhojan trained the participants.
