TIRUPATTUR: The MDMK general secretary today took a strong exception to the order of Election Commission (EC) transferring Chennai Police Commissioner R. Natraj and said that it has no powers to decide on official postings but rather restrict itself in doing election related works.

Addressing an meeting here, Vaiko, who had struck an alliance with the AIADMK, said the Chennai Police Commissioner on March 8 as part of International Women's Day like any other resident of the State had just praised the Chief Minister J.Jayalalithaa. It had no political overtone.

On instigation from one of the Union Ministers from the State, the EC without an enquiry had issued transfer order to the Police Commissioner.

Now they have asked for a list of police officers to decide on the posting. Stating that the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) president M. Karunanidhi had started to doubt his prospects in the forthcoming elections, Vaiko said it was surprising to understand that the DMK Chief was now ready for a coalition Government in the State.

"Even if he is open for a coalition Government, the people of Tamil Nadu are not ready for it as they have decided their mandate in favour of Democratic Progressive Front (DPF) headed by the AIADMK," he opined.
