Between Madurai and Kanyakumari and also doubling of the track so as to cut travelling time
: Urging the Southern Railway to complete the ongoing electrification work in the Madurai – Tirunelveli – Kanyakumari section and doubling of track in this section as early as possible, Tirunelveli MP S.S. Ramasubbu has pressed the Southern Railway officials to commence work on constructing the already sanctioned Rail Over Bridges (ROB) at Kulavanigarpuram and Thatchanallur manned level crossings without further delay.
In the memorandum submitted on behalf of Mr. Ramasubbu to General Manager, Southern Railway, A.K. Mittal, during the latter’s meeting with a group of MPs at Tiruchi held on November 9, the Tirunelveli MP said the ongoing electrification work, which could be expedited, should be completed on an early note so that duration of the journey between southern parts of Tamil Nadu and Chennai would come down further.
If the doubling of track in the Kanyakumari – Tirunelveli – Madurai section is completed, it will drastically cut the duration of journey between destination in southern districts and Chennai.
The delay in commencing the construction of the already sanctioned ROBs at Kulavanigarpuram manned level crossing near the Palayamkottai Central Prison and at Thathanallur near Tirunelveli Junction was badly affecting the road-users.
The MP has come down heavily on the Southern Railway for poor maintenance of coaches in the Kanyakumari, Ananthapuri and Nellai Express Trains, saying that the age-old coaches attached to these three trains should be replaced with new coaches.
He said the frequency of Kanyakumari – Hazarat Nizamudin Thirukkural Express Train should be increased and one more Shengottai – Tirunelveli Passenger Train be introduced considering the heavy rush for this train.
While the Chendur Express Train connecting Tiruchendur and Chennai should be halted at Palayamkottai and Alwarthirunagari, which is situated closely to ‘Navathiruppathi shrines’, Nagercoil – Coimbatore Express Train and Kanyakumari – Chennai Kanyakumari Express Train should be halted at Nanguneri.
New stoppage
New stoppage at Kaavalkinaru railway station, platform ticket vending machines at Tirunelveli Railway Junction, improved platforms at Melapalayam and Nanguneri stations, computerised reservation system at Thisaiyanvilai post office, additional ticket reservation counter at Palayamkottai Ward Office etc. are some more demands made by Mr. Ramasubbu.
