Sleuths of the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti Corruption (DVAC), Tiruchi unit conducted surprise checks at the five check posts falling within the city limit in the wee hours of Wednesday and seized bribe money and driving licences.

The checks were conducted simultaneously by the DVAC sleuths at the check posts in Karumandapam, Panchappur; Airport; Ariyamangalam and Tiruvanaikoil following complaints from the general public that policemen deployed at the check posts were demanding and obtaining bribe from the vehicle drivers after stopping them.

Bribe money amounting Rs.2,400 and 54 driving licences that were taken from vehicle drivers, an Automated Telling Machine (ATM) card, an Election Identity card besides a Star Health identity card were seized from the Head Constables deployed at the check posts.

Further investigations are on, a press release from the DVAC here said.
