THANJAVUR: Duvadasa Garudasevai festival, in which deities from 23 Perumal temples around Thanjavur will be taken in a procession on Garuda Vahanam, will be held here from June 2 to 5.

The festival starts with Mangalasasanam by Thirumangaiyalwar to Perumals at Sri Narasimha Perumal Temple on the banks of Vennar on June 2. On June 3, Garudasevai will take place. Twenty three Perumals will be taken in procession on the four main streets of Thanjavur from 7 a.m. to noon. Thirumangaiyalwar on Hamsa vahana will herald the procession. Navaneetha sevai will be held on June 4 during which Perumals will be taken in Vennai Thazhi alankaram on four streets from 7 a.m. to noon. Vidayatri will be held on June 5.

Sri Ramanuja Darsana Sabaiyar and Palace Devasthanam, organisers of the festival, have appealed to people to take part in the Garudasevai and have darshan of the Lords.

It is in Thanjavur that 23 Perumals take part in a procession.

In other places such as Nangoor and Kumbakonam only 12 Perumals take part.

Thus the Duvathasa Garudasevai is unique, said the organisers.

The Perumals to be taken in procession are Sri Lakshmi Samedha Sri Neelamega Perumal, Sri Narasimha Perumal, Sri Manikunna Perumal, Sri Velur Varadaraja Perumal, Velur Varadaraja Perumal, Karanthai Sri Yadav Kannan, Vennar bank Sri Kalyana Venkatesa Perumal, Kondirajapalayam Sri Yoga Narasimha Perumal, Kondirajapalayam Sri Kothandaramar, Keelarajaveedhi Sri Varadaraja Perumal, Sri Kaliyuga Venkatesa Perumal of Therku Veedhi, Ayyankadai Theru Ramaswamy Perumal, Kottai Sri Prasanna Venkatesa Perumal, Sri Govindaraja Perumal, Mela Alankam Sri Ranganatha Perumal, Mela Rajaveedhi Sri Vijayarama Perumal, Melarajaveedhi Sri Navaneetha Krishnan, Sadanayakkan Theru Sri Boologa Krishnan, Manambuchavadi Sri Navaneetha Krishnaswamy, Manambuchavadi Sri Prasanna Venkatesa Perumal, Sri Kothandramaswamy Perumal, Palli Agraharam, Sri Lakshmi Narayana Perumal (Sungan Thidal) and Sri Venkatesa Perumal from Karathai Vaniba Theru.
