Park Institutions launched ‘Durga’, an empowerment programme for girls to commemorate International Day of the Girl Child. It was to equip girls and women with the necessary skills to overcome fear and reduce suicide. The programme, to be held in association with the Rotary Club of Coimbatore Aakruthi, and Defence Academy of Coimbatore, was inaugurated by M. Sudhakar, Superintendent of Police.According to a release, the programme, designed by psychologists and scientists from the Defence Research and Development Organisation, aims to educate and equip girls and women for whom travelling is unavoidable.

To begin with, the fear factor would be determined through a series of tests. Depending on the level of fear, defence techniques would be taught. In the third stage, a guidance session on vigilance will be provided to the participants by representatives from the uniformed services.

It aims to train 1,000 girls from Park Group of Institutions. With the support of sponsors, it will be extended to girls of Corporation schools in Phase II.
