Durga puja is being celebrated with pomp and splendour by the Durgapuja Celebration Committee at Kailasapuram Club in BHEL Township from October 10 to 12 in the city. Idols of deities Durga, Lakshmi, Saraswati, Kartik and Ganesh are brought from Salem, decked with glittering dresses and ornaments and displayed in a decorated pandal with lighting.

Priests from West Bengal perform puja rituals on the mornings of Shashti, Saptami, Ashtami, and Navami, with the chanting of Durga mantras and Chandi homam. Bhajan performances will be given by Sri Murali and group from Sarada Samity, Golden Rock, on Ashtami. The celebrations will conclude with the tradition where families visit each other and sweetmeats are offered to visitors.
