Rallies, pamphlet distribution and pasting of bulls-eye stickers mark road safety week celebrations

The penultimate day of the 22nd road safety week observance by the Transport Department here, was marked by rallies, distribution of pamphlets and pasting of bulls-eye stickers at Avurithidal near the new bus stand on Thursday.

Collector C.Munianathan flagged off the rally. The last five-days witnessedprogrammes organised in Nagapattinam, Nagore, Velankanni, Vedaranyam, Thirukuvalai and Keezhvelur.

An awareness campaign was organised at the R.V.Engineering College and Polytechnic at Sembodai in Vedaranyam and an orientation programme was held at the E.G.S.Pillay Engineering College.

The concluding day would be marked by vision test and blood test for drivers at the Road Transport Office here from 10 a.m. S.Swaminathan, Regional Transport Officer; A.Mukkannan, Motor Vehicles Inspector and Sukumar, Revenue Divisional Officer, were present.

Pudukottai

College students, state government officials and employees and volunteers of service organisations took out an awareness procession as part of road safety week.

Collector, A. Suganthi, flagged off the procession at the Public Office campus here which marched down through the thoroughfares. N. Balagurunathan, regional transport officer, said that free eye test camps were being organised. S. Sivakumar, motor vehicle inspector; S. Anusham, deputy manager, Tamil Nadu state transport corporation; K.V.K. Karunanidhi, divisional manager participated.

Thanjavur

Collector M. S. Shanmugham and Superintendent of police K. A. Senthil Velan handed out head light stickers and red reflectors to vehicles here on Thursday. According to R.Soundararasu, Regional Transport Officer, the programmes started with issue of pamphlets bearing slogans to create awareness on road safety at Old Bus stand. A rally will be taken out on January 7.Two Wheeler Workshop Owners Association participated.
