ERODE: A team of officials removed a large number of shops set up on the roadsides in Perundurai on Thursday.

The district administration initiated the drive to remove the encroachments following widespread complaints from public that some persons had occupied the roadsides in different parts of the town and set up shops, causing inconvenience to the vehicle users.

A large number of shops were set up by encroaching the Coimbatore Main road, Kunnanthur road, Erode Road and Bhavani road. A few shopkeepers had even extended their shops by constructing concrete structures on the roadsides.

The encroachments led to frequent traffic snarls in the town particularly during the peak hours.

Vehicle users were put to hardships as a number of shops were established by occupying major portions of the road. A team of officials along with the help of police personnel removed the encroachments.
