PERAMBALUR: A total of 2.40 lakh children in the age group of 1-15 years in Perambalur and Ariyalur will be covered under a free vaccination programme against brain fever.

The vaccination will be administered before March 31 in all the schools and anganwadis and after that it will be given through PHCs.

Speaking after inaugurating the programme at Senjeri village near here on Monday, Collector Anil Meshram appealed to the people of Perambalur and Ariyalur districts to take maximum advantage of the scheme.

The Joint Director of Public Health, Chennai, Jayakumar, said that the cost per vaccine was about Rs.50. The Joint Director of Health, Perambalur, A. Gandhimathi said that 10 teams have been formed for each block and each team comprised five members, including two village health nurses, to administer the vaccine, one Health Inspector, a teacher and an anganwadi worker. The children would be immunised throughout their life. The Deputy Director of Health, Mohan, said that an intensive awareness campaign had been organised in these districts.
