For G. Sridalaadevi (22) and V. Vasandan (21), college students, the art exhibited by them at Maison Perumal, a noted heritage building in Perumal Koil street in Puducherry, may be their initial attempt to showcase their artistic inclination. The response that they received from spectators indicates that they have made a good beginning.
The paintings that have been displayed along the wall of the dining hall of Maison Perumal stimulate visitors, tourists, inmates and others to delve into artistic expressions of the young.
A painting, which is titled ‘Sleepless Night’, visualises the inner thoughts of a young girl, who undergoes tough moments prior to the important Class XII examinations. The painter has tried to present parental pressure, expectation of schools, and the ultimate stress caused by examinations.
Kirti Chandak, Managing Trustee, Silpatheru, Puducherry, which has provided the opportunity for the exhibition, with the participation of Maison Perumal, which provided space for the exhibition, said that the artists had risen to the occasion to present fascinating and inspirational paintings.
Sam John, General Manager, Maison Perumal said the exhibition was aimed at motivating young artists to portray the cultural values of Puducherry.
Through paintings artists could communicate an idea, an emotion, or a thought about the society, practices, faith and others. Maison Perumal would continue to support similar attempts to foster Puducherry culture, he added.
The exhibition started a week ago and is to continue till May 16.
