To be displayed in post offices, schools and polling stations "List of names will be read out at gram sabha meetings to be held on January 26"
DINDIGUL: Persons aged 18 years as on January 1, 2006 may apply to the District Election Office from January 23 to February 6 for enrolment of their names in the voter list for 2006 Assembly elections, according to the Collector, S. Murugaia.
In a release here on Saturday, he said the draft electoral roll would be displayed in all post offices, schools and polling stations on Monday. Copies of the electoral roll would also be handed over to panchayat offices and residential welfare associations. Besides, the list of names in the electoral roll would also be read out in public at gram sabha meetings to be held on January 26. A special camp would also be conducted in all schools having polling stations and post offices on February 4. Eligible candidates might submit their applications in one of these camps. Such camps would be held between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. Bulk applications would not be accepted, said Mr. Murugaia.
Eligible voters should fill Form VI for inclusion of names. Form-VII could be used for deletion of names from the voter list. If there was any modification or change in door number, name, age and relationship, voters had to fill Form VIII. Forms would be distributed free of cost from polling stations in residential areas and schools.
Officials at the polling stations concerned would issue receipt for accepting forms. Photocopies of age and residential proof should be enclosed with the application forms for inclusion of names.
The Collector appealed to all eligible persons to register their names in the electoral roll quickly to enable the district administration to release the final roll within the specific period.
