As many as 11,55,604 electors – 5,78,648 male and 5,76,956 female voters – in Namakkal District have found a place in the final draft of the electoral rolls for the local body elections 2011, said Collector J. Kumaragurubaran after releasing the list at the District Collectorate here on Tuesday.

A total of 2,285 polling booths would be set up for the citizens to exercise their franchise.

He said that there are 7,22,418 voters – 3,61,370 male and 3,61,048 female – in the 322 panchayats in the district who would be electing 2,595 panchayat board members. The 2,18,225 voters (1,08,308 male and 1,09,917 female) in the four municipalities – Namakkal, Tiruchengode, Rasipuram and Kumarapalayam – will be electing 132 municipal ward councillors.

As many as 28,364 voters – 14,314 male and 14,050 female – in Pallipalayam Third Grade Municipality will be electing 21 municipal ward councillors, he said. Also 1,86,597 voters – 92,964 male and 93,633 female – in the 19 town panchayats in the district will cast their votes to elect 294 town panchayat councillors, he added.

In addition to the above position, 17 district panchayat members will also be elected in the local body elections, the Collector noted. The 2,285 booths includes 1,698 in the panchayats, 246 in the four municipalities, 36 at Pallipalayam Third Grade Municipality and 305 booths in the 19 town panchayats.
