Sessions judge of the Mahila Court K.Ashokan on Friday awarded double death sentence to Sundararajan (25) of Samayapuram, besides seven years' rigorous imprisonment, all to run concurrently, on charges of abduction and murder of seven-year-old K.Suresh of Karkoodal in Vriddhachalam district.

The judge acquitted Balayee of Sengunam in Ariyalur district, of all charges.

Suresh, a Class II student, was returning from school on July 27, 2009 when Sundararajan approached him and told him that his grandmother had been hospitalised. Suresh went with Sundararajan. Suresh's mother Maheswari received an anonymous call demanding ransom of Rs.5 lakh for the boy's release. On a complaint, the police traced Sundararajan. During interrogation he confessed that as ransom was denied he strangulated the boy.
