All nine central prisons in the State will have a dog squad, comprising two dogs trained in detecting narcotic substances and explosives, Additional Director General of Police (Prisons) K.R. Shyamsundar said on Thursday.

He said 18 pups of the Alsatian and Doberman breed would be procured soon. The Chennai Dog Squad has agreed to train them in detecting narcotics and explosive substances.

Asked about the seizure of a mobile phone and SIM card from a remand prisoner, Selvam (36) of Kannagi Nagar, lodged in the Puzhal central prison on Wednesday, Mr. Shyamsundar said a team would be visiting New Delhi to study the functioning of mobile phone jammers. — Special Correspondent
