The People’s Movement Against Death Penalty (PMDAP) on Monday released a two-minute trailer of a documentary on A.G. Perarivalan, a convict on death row in the Rajiv Gandhi assassination case, and sought to garner public support for saving the prisoner from the gallows.
PMADP Tamil Nadu convener Selvaraj Murugaiyyan said the organisation headed by Justice VR Krishnaiyer and Arputhammal, the convict’s mother, had taken the initiative to create an online repository of information pertaining to the convict and also produce a documentary titled “Uyirvali – sakkiyadikkum satham.” More details can be had from www.saveperarivalan.com.
The documentary directed by Praghadeeswaran and edited by VT Vijayan was scripted against death penalty as a whole, and had taken Perarivalan as a case study.
“The documentary will be released in about four weeks,” Mr. Murugaiyyan said.
Mrs. Arputhammal felt that the film would prove to the world the innocence of her son.
Noted film director R.K. Selvamani, writer Tamilachi Thangapandian, lyrist Tamarai among others spoke.
