Allege assault of a Medical Officer by an MLA

Puducherry: An estimated 200 doctors attached to different wings of the Government General Hospital in Puducherry went on a two-hour long strike on Monday seeking action against S.P. Sivakumar, an MLA of Puducherry, who had allegedly assaulted Dr. Ramalingam, an Ophthalmologist, while he was on duty on Saturday.

It was alleged that the legislator's wife had come to the ophthalmology wing on Saturday for treatment of an eye ailment. She suspected that the doctor was misbehaving and reportedly informed her husband. The legislator had rushed to the hospital and allegedly slapped Dr. Ramalingam. A delegation of Pondicherry State Medical Officers Association submitted a memorandum to the Lt. Governor on Monday regarding the incident.
