A Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam functionary, M. Anbumaran, was arrested by the District Crime Branch on land-grabbing charge on Tuesday.

In his complaint, B. Kathiresan of Tiruvalluvar Nagar in Usilampatti said he bought a 12-cent land in Sikkampatti in 1997.

He had obtained a patta for that land. DMK Usilampatti union secretary Anbumaran had bought a piece of land abutting his land. Anbumaran had been putting pressure on Kathiresan to sell his land to him, the complaint said.

Meanwhile, Anbumaran, with the help of a woman, M. Perumayi, created bogus documents to the effect that the land was sold to Anbumaran’s wife Pechiammal. Perumayi was also arrested.

The police have booked the trio for criminal conspiracy, forgery, cheating and criminal intimidation.
