: The Central Crime Branch police registered a case of cheating and among eight other sections under the IPC against a DMK functionary and three others here on Wednesday.

Following a complaint from Prasad (60) of East Perumal Maistry Street, Commissioner of Police P. Kannappan directed the CCB police to register a case.

Investigations suggested that the DMK functionary ‘colour' Kasi alias Kasiviswanathan, 52 {+n} {+d} ward secretary, had been a tenant of the complainant's house. However, without the knowledge of the complainant, Kasiviswanathan had allegedly rented out a portion of the property for running a ration shop.

When Prasad insisted his tenant to vacate, Kasiviswanathan and his accomplices threatened him with dire consequences. At one stage, Kasiviswanathan claimed that he owned the property and came out with documents in his favour.

Hence, in a bid to retrieve the property, Prasad preferred a complaint.

Based on the confessions, the police arrested Kasiviswanathan, his wife Rajalakshmi and two others. Further investigation is on.
