T. Balasubramanian (41), deputy secretary (Tirupur South district) of Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam, escaped a bid on his life near Udumalpet on Thursday. He sustained head injuries in the attack. Police said the incident occurred when Balasubramanian was travelling in a car with his friends along Udumalpet-Palani road when a van hit his car.

In the collision the car turned upside down and Balasubramanian managed to emerge out of it unhurt. When he questioned the van driver for driving rash, the driver said that his intention was to kill him, police said.

Injuried

As the wordy argument went on, a gang who came by another car started attacking Balasubramanian with rods causing injuries to his head. Hearing his screams, people from the vicinity rushed in and the gang fled from the scene.

The Komaralingam police are investigating.
