They allege that false cases are being registered against their leader
Alleging that false cases were being registered against their leader, cadre of Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK) staged a protest near the Collectorate here on Thursday.
Led by district secretary N. Radhakrishnan, cadre said that the present government continues to register false cases against DMDK leader Vijayakant, to create a bad impression about him among the people.
“But our leader will not be deterred by these cases,” they added.
They also raised slogans that their leader would continue to serve the people and attend the courts.
They termed the current action of the government regarding the matter as ‘political vendetta’.
When they raised slogans, police personnel prevented them from doing so, saying that permission was not given for staging the protest and tried to arrest them.
An altercation broke out between the protesters and the police regarding the issue of staging a protest at the spot.
Later, as many as 125 cadre, including 12 women, were removed from the place in police vehicles following the incident.
They were lodged in marriage halls.
