: In spite of tourism potential across Tuticorin district, the absence of District Tourism Office is a major drawback. The authorities should should set up an exclusive tourism office, Ilasai Manian, secretary, Raghunathan Library, Barathi Research Centre, Ettayapuram, said on Saturday.

While the neighbouring districts, including Tirunelveli and Kanyakumari, have district tourism offices, Tuticorin district has been neglected with lack of such establishments. In the best interest of tourists, measures should be taken to establish similar facilities here on a war footing, he said.

With the archaeological beauty in Adichanallur and Korkai and memorials of freedom fighters, including Veerapandia Kattabomman at Panchalankurichi, Manimandapam of Poet Barathi in Ettayapuram, the ancient house of V.O. Chidambaram in Ottapidaram and Ash Memorial in Tuticorin district, Tuticorin had been recognised as one of the important tourism destinations in Tamil Nadu, he said.
