Tuticorin will soon have a District Science Centre, N. Chinnadurai, chairman of the district panchayat, declared at the District Planning Committee meeting convened here on Wednesday. Presiding over the meeting, Mr. Chinnadurai said infrastructure facilities for the centre would be created at a cost of Rs. 41.97 lakh, initially. Project work was expected to begin soon.
He said the government had sanctioned Rs. 3 crore for establishing a multi-purpose indoor stadium on the premises of the district stadium, where a walking track and other facilities for sportspersons would be established. As for the Pearl City beach, a newly created beach in Tuticorin, development work including a skating track, additional seating arrangements, drainage facility and beautification work were in progress at an estimated cost of Rs. 3 crore.
S. Kasthuri, District Planning Officer, and officials from the TWAD Board, highways department, Pollution Control Board, agriculture department, TANGEDCO, as well as departments of education and health attended the meeting.
