Officials of the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption on Thursday arrested a District Registrar on charges of taking bribe for releasing a document.
According to sources in the agency, Abdul Basith (30) of Broadway lodged a complaint with the DVAC that the District Registrar Radha (57) was demanding a bribe of Rs. 5,000 for releasing the document of a house he purchased and registered on October 18, 2010.
A special team led by the Deputy Superintendent of Police K. Ponnuchamy was formed to investigate the case. The team laid a trap and arrested Radha soon after she took the bribe from Basith in the office of the Sub-Registrar in Sowcarpet.
Unaccounted cash to the tune of Rs. 45,000 was seized from the custody of the accused person, the sources added.
