Heavy rain lashed the city and its suburbs on Monday evening throwing normal life out of gear.

The movement of people was hampered as rain continued till late night.

According to reports reaching the district headquarters, the rainfall recorded in mm in the 24 hours that ended 8.30 a.m. on Monday as follows: Annur - 6, Airport - 5, Mettupalayam - 12.40, Periyanaickenpalayam - 12, TNAU - 10.50, Chinnakalar - 2, Cinchona - 2, Valparai - 2, Coimbatore (North) - 7, Sholayar - 5, Parambikulam - 3, Aliyar - 2.4, Lower Nirar - 2, Upper Nirar - 9 and Manakadavu - 3.5.

The rain has led to considerable improvement in the storage level in various reservoirs across the district.

The storage level in ft (Full Reservoir Level in brackets): Sholayar 160.52 (160), Parambikulam 69.40 (72), Aliyar Dam - 119.90 (120), Thirumurthy - 43.93 (60) and Amaravathy - 43.93 (90).
