The unexpected downpour on Wednesday resulted in Coimbatore district recording 99 mm rainfall and an average of 8.25 mm rainfall in the last 24 hours that ended at 8.30 a.m. on Thursday.

The highest of 25 mm was reported in Pollachi while TNAU recorded the lowest of 1 mm.

Annur recorded 17.60 mm, Airport Peelamedu 1.10, Periyanaickenpalayam 2, Sulur 2.30, Cincona 20, Chinna Kallar 9, Valparai PAP 5, Valparai Taluk office 4 and Coimbatore South recorded 12 mm. Siruvani, city’s main drinking water supply provider received good rainfall. Its catchment area received 38 mm. But the water level rose only by 5 cm. The storage was 24.8 ft as against the full reservoir level of 50 ft.

The North East Monsoon over the next 45 days is likely to help improve storage so that the city could manage water supply during the summer.
