Tiruchi district panchayat is being considered for the best performing district panchayat award given away by the Union government. Disclosing this at a meeting of the district panchayat Council meeting, chaired by T.Rajathi, chairperson, the district panchayat secretary Arockiya Mary said a two-member team of the Union government has already conducted an assessment of the performance of the district panchayat.
They had inspected works executed through the district panchayat at Top Sengattupatti, a tribal hamlet, where solar lamps and other basic amenities have been provided.
They had also inspected other development initiatives taken up in a few other villages in the district. The State government too had recommended the Tiruchi district panchayat for the award and a decision is expected in April, she said.
Welcoming the move, Rajmohan and Nedumaran of the AIADMK, appealed to fellow councillors of the district panchayat to rise above political differences to continue the good work.
Earlier, the two councillors moved a resolution thanking and appreciating Chief Minister Jayalalithaa’s tireless efforts to get the final award of the Cauvery Tribunal notified.
