As a prelude to the Maha Lok Adalats to be held across the country on November 23, 2013, as per the directive of the National Legal Services Authority, New Delhi, preliminary Lok Adalats will be conducted from October 21 to November 22 in the offices of the District Level Services Authority and Taluk Legal Services Committees in Thanjavur district, said R. Sethumadhavan, District Principal Sessions Judge and Chairman of District Legal Services Authority here on Wednesday.
He told presspersons that the preliminary Lok Adalats will be held with the cooperation of officials from banks and financial institutions, borrowers and with the help of retired judges.
“District Legal Services Authority will hold Preliminary Lok Adalats in Thanjavur and Taluk Legal Services Committees will hold adalats at Kumbakonam, Pattukottai, Orathanadu, Papanasam, and Thiruvaiyaru from October 21 to November 21”, Mr. Sethumadhavan said.
All the borrowers are requested to avail the opportunity to sit together with the bank officials and decide about the settlement amount to be paid and further avail the opportunity to extend the time for payment. In case of the said settlement, there will not be any further appeal.
There will not be any court expenses and payment of court fee and Judgement will be delivered on the same day.
In case of pending cases, the court fee paid would be refunded, if the parties go for settlements.
In summon cases, where parties are willing to compound, the offences can also be compounded and on the payment of the fine amount the case will be disposed off without adjournment and judgement will be delivered on the same day, Mr. Sethumadhavan said.
As per the order of the National Legal Services Authority at New Delhi, Tamil Nadu Legal Services Authority, Chennai has instructed the District Legal Services Authority and all the Taluk Legal Services Committees to conduct a Maha Lok Adalat on November 23, 2013.
