Efforts on to help flood-hit
District Collector V.K. Shanmugam has asked officials to initiate immediate efforts to help people in flood-affected areas in the district.
Inspecting the damages caused by floods in various parts on Monday, the Collector instructed the officials to provide food, clothes and medicines to the affected persons.
He visited the temporary shelters set up in schools, temples and marriage halls, and assured people that the administration would provide them with necessary assistance.
The administration had also asked the health department to ensure adequate stock of medicines in all the government hospitals and primary health centres.
Measures had been initiated to prevent the spread of diseases during floods.
Officials had been asked to chlorinate the drinking water adequately, the Collector said.
“We have asked the village health nurses and the doctors in the primary health centres to visit the affected areas and monitor the situation closely,” he added.
Report on flood
Mr. Shanmugam further said that officials in the revenue, rural development, animal husbandry and agriculture departments were asked to assess the flood damage, and submit a report to the administration quickly.
