Distribution of free textbooks meant for school students is going on in Madurai district. After receiving the textbook consignment from the Tamil Nadu Textbook Corporation, officials of the School Education Department here have started supplying the ‘Samacheer Kalvi' textbooks to respective schools on Monday.

The free textbooks are being supplied to the students of government and aided schools for all classes. Officials said on Tuesday that the supply was undertaken from one point each in Madurai, Melur and Usilampatti educational districts.

R. Swaminathan, District Educational Officer (DEO), Madurai educational district, has said that the textbooks for sixth to twelfth standard students were being distributed at St. Britto Higher Secondary School and at Holy Family Girls School here for both Tamil and English medium students. The headmasters of respective schools would distribute the textbooks to students after the schools reopen on June 1. Textbooks for some ‘titles'/subjects are yet to come and they will be supplied in the second phase that will begin on May 18.

R. Balamurali, DEO, Usilampatti educational district, said that the distribution point for his region was Government Kallar Higher Secondary School at Chekkanoorani. In the Melur educational district also, the textbooks' distribution began on Monday at the Government Girls Higher Secondary School in Othakadai.
