Distribution of booth slips begins

The slips will be distributed at the doorsteps of voters

District Election Officer and Nilgiris Collector Archana Patnaik launched the distribution of booth slips to voters at Green Fields residential area here on Saturday.

She said that the slips, which bear the photographs of the voters and other relevant particulars, would be distributed at the doorsteps of the voters on Sunday also.

Pointing out that the final list of voters for the April 13 elections after inclusion and deletion based on applications that were received up to March 16, 2011 has been released, she said that 5,940 male voters and 6,015 female voters have been added and eight male voters deleted in the three constituencies of the Nilgiris district.

In the Udhagamandalam assembly constituency, there are now 1,71,199 voters including 85,332 male and 85,867 female.

In Gudalur (SC) there are 1,59,248 voters including 79,888 male and 79,360 female.

In Coonoor there are as many as 1,64,762 voters including 81,206 male and 83,556 female.

The total number of voters in the district is 4,95,209 including 2,46,426 male and 2,48,783 female.

The Collector added that April 13 has been declared as a public holiday under Section 25 of the Negotiable Instruments Act.

She hoped that people will turn out in large numbers to exercise their franchise.
