Nagabharana Arts Foundation has so far donated five lakh masks

Police plan more social welfare projects

Coimbatore: City Police Commissioner P. Sivanandi on Saturday handed over disposable protective swine flu masks donated by Nagabharana Arts Foundation, Chennai, to the Dean of Coimbatore Medical College Hospital, V. Kumaran.

Mr. Sivanandi said that Nagabharana Arts Foundation had so far donated 5,00,000 disposable swine flu protective masks to various organisations. President of the Foundation Jayapriya Vikraman, Chairperson of Social Project Manju Agarwal and Dr. Bhaktavatsalam, committee member, handed over 20,000 masks to the City Police Commissioner.

Mr. Sivanandi said that the police wanted to be a vehicle for taking the welfare gestures of the Foundation to the needy. The Commissioner handed over 10,000 masks to the Dr. Kumaran. About 2,500 masks would be given to college students since many of the recent cases of swine flu positive cases reported in Coimbatore were college students. The remaining would be given to police personnel on duty on roads, especially traffic constables and police vehicle drivers.

Mr. Sivanandi said that with the help of the Foundation, the City Police had planned to bring in more social welfare projects for the poor and thereby bridge the gap between the police and the public.
