The district police have registered a case against members of caste Hindus of Thummakundu near Tirumangalam who prevented Dalits from offering worship in a temple till they completed with their rituals.

The district police had recently warned the people against making any such discrimination at temples against anyone on the lines of caste. In a statement, Superintendent of Police V. Balakrishnan said that during the Vairavasamy Temple festival on October 9, the caste Hindus had prepared Pongal. However, when the Dalits wanted to worship, the caste Hindu members had allegedly prevented them, claiming that the Dalits should offer their prayers only after the caste Hindus had completed their rituals.

Based on a complaint by the Special Sub-Inspector of Police, Sindupatti, a case has been registered against the caste Hindus.
