Corporation and Municipalities' pensioners stage agitation
Members of the Salem Regional Corporation and Municipalities' Pensioners' Association, here, staged an agitation to urge the Salem Corporation to disburse the delayed retirement benefits to them immediately.
These pensioners, who had worked in Salem Corporation at different levels in office and periods, had claimed that the Civic Body had not paid interest to the welfare fund since 1996-97 and the retirement benefits such as leave encashment had not been paid since December 31, 2008.
They further pointed out that a few had not received pension since they were facing disciplinary action.
The retirement benefits had been stayed for them.
More over pension was disbursed only in the second week of every month to other pensioners.
The difference in the 6th Pay commission had not been paid so far to all of them, they said. The pensioners said that Salem Corporation should immediately redress their grievances or else they had no other alternative but to resort to a series of agitations in future.
President K.C. Venkatachalam presided over the function in which association members and others participated.
