Marimuthu, 39, a resident of Thippampatti, Pollachi, on Monday petitioned the Collector, M. Karunagaran, seeking direction to his former employer to disburse his compensation.

In his petition, he had said that while working in a coir manufacturing unit at Pollachi, he lost his hand in an accident in 2003.

He also lost the fingers in the other hand.

After the accident, his employer did not offer any compensation, which forced him to knock on the doors of the Labour Court.

The court ordered his employer to pay a compensation of Rs. 1.75 lakh.

His employer paid him Rs. 1.30 lakh at Rs. 10,000 a month.

After paying Rs. 1.30 lakh, his employer did not pay any amount.

His oral and written requests to the employer were turned down.

His family was leading a hand-to-mouth existence with the income his wife gets.

He was finding it difficult to educate his daughter, a student of Class VIII.

Mr. Karunagaran, on receiving the petition, asked the Sub Collector, Pollachi, to look into the issue and help the petitioner get the remaining compensation immediately

Demand patta

Persons with leprosy on Monday picketed the Collectorate demanding patta. Led by A. Ganesan and R. Robert, the persons with leprosy, under the Amarjothi Leprosy Nivarana Sangh, said that they had petitioned the district administration seeking patta for the lands they had built their houses near Maruthamalai.
